2. WHY ARE PIERCINGS $40- WHEN I CAN GET THEM AT OTHER STUDIOS FOR $10-?

3. WHY ARE DEPOSITS REQUIRED FOR TATTOO APPOINTMENTS?

Sonic Tattoo takes $80 deposits for all tattoo appointment. We take deposit to ensure the seriousness of the person making the appointment. In the past some clients have cancelled their appointments with very little or no notice at all. This is very unfair to the Tattoo Artist who has prepared your artwork and was ready to tattoo you based on the word of the client that said they would be there for the appointment. Tattoo Artists are commissioned contractor and only earn a living by tattooing so when a client doesn’t show up they compromise the ability of our Tattoo Artists to earn a living. If a client does not give sufficient notice for cancelling or rescheduling then they default their deposit to the Tattoo Artist. This is for having wasted their time for any artwork that was prepared and for the set up of the tattoo booth. We have been taking deposits for several years now and I think you will find that this is common in the tattoo industry.

4. ARE YOU CLOSED?

No. Recently we had the front windows of the studio tinted to keep the heat and glare out of the studio. We still display a neon open sign during our hours of operation. Sonic Tattoo has always been open 7 days a week from noon to 9pm for the last 10 years but our new hours are 11am to 7pm. If your are ever unsure if we are open then simply try our front door, phone number or webpage and you will always reach us.

5. WHY DOES NOBODY ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN YOU OPEN?

Sonic Tattoo has always put our clients first. When we are dealing with clients they are paying for our undivided attention and that’s what we give them. Your calls and business is equally important to us but we are always working with clients and hope that you can appreciate that the client at hand comes first. If you were in the studio receiving a tattoo or piercing and the phone was ringing we wouldn’t answer it until we were done with you.

6. WHY IS THE DOOR LOCKED SOMETIMES WHEN THE OPEN SIGN IS ON?

Sonic Tattoo has always put our clients first. When we are dealing with clients they are paying for our undivided attention and that’s what we give them. Your calls and business is equally important to us but we are always working with clients and hope that you can appreciate that the client at hand comes first. We are also as much of a retail studio as a service studio so if we are all working clients there is no guarantee that someone would not just walk in and steal something.

7. WHAT IS YOUR STERILIZATION PROCESS?

We are inspected by the Niagara Region Board of Health and have been since we opened in 2002. We have never failed an inspection or a spore since we have opened. All of our needles are single use and the rest of our instruments that are re-used are put through a rigorous cleaning before sterilization in an autoclave. All of our staff has been extensively trained in bloodborne pathogen, infection control and cross contamination training for all areas of the studio. Your safety is paramount as much as our own. If you ever had any questions about our practices and protocols please don’t hesitate to ask us anything. We would be more than help to give you a your of the studio and show you the entire process.

8. WHAT ARE YOUR STUDIOS PAYMENT OPTIONS?

We accept everything including Debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Cash. There no need to go looking for an ATM but we have one too.

9. WHY CAN'T I RETURN JEWELLERY FOR A REFUND?

All jewellery purchases are final sales and cannot be returned. Jewellery that has made contact with a persons body cannot be re-sold to another person. It's the responsibilty of the piercee to know the size of the jewellery they require before purchasing it. We can assist you with getting the appropriate size and install it for free after purchasing it. If you come in and buy the wrong size and try to put it in yourself then it cannot be returned. Would you want to purchase jewellery that someone else has tried on or worn in their body? We think not plus it's also a rule of local health board not to re-sterilze jewellery for re-sale.

If you are not open to us making some slight changes to your design then we do reserve the right to not do the tattoo.

6. HOW MUCH WILL MY TATTOO COST?

There are several factors that determine the price of a tattoo but what it really comes down is time. The factors that contribute to time are the design, detail of the design, size of the design, placement of the design and the amount of colors in the design. We have a minimum tattoo price of $80 and an hourly rate of $120 for all tattooing. The hourly rate is reserved for large scale tattoos such as sleeves and full back pieces. Most tattoo are quoted piece by piece and you final quote is always honored by the artist even if it takes longer than anticipated. We sometimes have to give ballpark pricing or a range of prices until we have more information about the tattoo. These ballpark quotes are not final prices and should not be thought of as until the final design is completed and present to you. It’s at this time when a final price can be given.

7. DOES GETTING A TATTOO HURT?

Yes. Tattoos do hurt but to most people they are minor and tolerable. If you know your own pain tolerance as being high then a tattoo shouldn’t bother you that much. If you know your pain tolerance as being low then you should take this into consideration before getting a tattoo. Remember that tattoo artists are commissioned workers and have appointments after yours. If you really can’t handle a tattoo but proceed with getting one, remember your decision affects several other people. If you feel that you might not be able to handle a tattoo then you should start with a small design until you are aware of the process.

10. HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO OR A PIERCING?

The tattoo industry has basic followed the age guidelines of 18 years old for a tattoo and 16 years old for a piercing. These age guidelines have been implemented by the tattoo industry, they are not legal legislation or laws. Some individuals can receive a tattoo or piercing if they are under the age guideline but they must have parental consent. If a parent consents for their child they must supply valid ID for them self and their child. Acceptable forms of ID include: passport, drivers license, birth certificate, age of majority card and photo health card.

11. IS YOUR STUDIO OPEN CONCEPT OR PRIVATE?

Private. Our studio is private for several reasons. Your privacy during a tattoo is very important to us so that you feel comfortable during your tattoo. More importantly is for all the health and safety reasons. Private studios contain the entire process within a booth so that no contamination can leave the booth to another area before being torn down and re-sterilized. Open concept studio have no privacy and a far greater risk of cross contaminating the surrounding areas before, during and after the process until the station has been torn down and re-sterilized. Private studios have nothing to hide and are always willing to show you any part of the studio and processes we follow. Open concept studios claim that it’s because they have nothing to hide but really open concept studios are just cheaper to construct with offering clients privacy. The first sign and difference between private and open concept studios is the willingness to save money right from the beginning. If a tattoo studio is willing to save money on the construction of their studio then what else are they willing to save money on when it comes to their studio?

Piercing Related Questions - Appointments Only

1. DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT FOR A PIERCING?

Yes so please call before coming. This way you can ensure the piercer is available and speak to them directly. We prefer to make an appointments for all piercings. *There is no guarantee to get pierced without calling first or speaking to the piercer directly.*

2. CAN I BRING MY OWN JEWELLERY FOR A PIERCING?

Yes and No. If you have an existing healed piercing and requires assistance changing it then yes. A minimal fee is charged if the jewellery is not purchased from our studio. If you bring us jewellery for an initial piercing then we can’t use it. We only use jewellery approved for use in Canada and that has been 100% sterilized in an autoclave. No jewellery that you brought us would be sterile and usually of poor metal quality so we wouldn’t be able to use it.

3. DO PIERCINGS GET INFECTED?

Yes. It’s incredibly hard to get a piercing infected. A person would have to totally neglect the piercing by completely ignoring the piercer’s advice. Most piercee’s perceive mild irritation as infection 99% of the time. The 3 most common signs of a real piercing infection are extreme swelling, extreme pain and the secretion of dark yellow to green pus. Unless this is what you’re experiencing then more than likely your piercing is just severely irritated from neglect or poor aftercare instructions. Always follow the advice of the piercer who performed the piercing. Never follow the advice of a friend or someone who is not a piercer.

4. HOW DO I HEAL MY PIERCING?

Always follow the advice of the piercer that did the piercing or the aftercare supplied by the studio where you got the piercing. Every piercer and every studio will have different aftercare method. All tattoo studios should have at least 3 different aftercare methods for healing a piercing because no two piercee’s are the same and the aftercare may not work for some people. The important thing to remember is that just the usage of Dead Sea Salts for every piercing is never the answer for healing every piercing. Although Dead Sea Salts work fairly well for a few piercings they are not the best for all piercings especially cartilage piercing. If you need further information on other aftercare methods and products please contact the studio and ask to speak to the piercer.

5. DOES GETTING A PIERCING HURT?

Yes. It only hurt a little. Any piercer that tells you it doesn’t hurt is more concerned with making the money from the piercing than answering any questions to alleviate your concerns. A piercing to most is usually described as a quick pinch with a mild throbbing after its completion. There can be some mild discomfort for a few days after the piercing.

6. CAN I TAKE MY JEWELLERY OUT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME?

You should never really take your jewellery out for any period of time except for the cleaning and regular care. When your piercing is removed the body has a natural response to start closing or healing your fistula (the hole of your piercing). If this happen you may require the assistance of a piercer to expand or re-open your fistula with an insertion taper. It’s always best to keep your jewellery in unless you are changing the jewellery or cleaning it. Never take your jewellery out for good unless it is fully healed.
